10 Android Developer Settings That Actually Make Your Phone Faster

10 Android Developer Settings That Actually Make Your Phone Faster

No root. No hacks. Just smart settings hiding in plain sight.

Written by Haris R. — Product Marketing Manager & Android enthusiast since 2012.

Most Android users never look past their Settings app. But there's a secret menu — Developer Options — that’s quietly holding back the true performance potential of your phone.

Originally built for app developers, it’s packed with switches and sliders that can help speed up animations, reduce battery drain, and fix annoying Bluetooth or UI issues — no root required.

Whether you're using your phone daily or keeping it as a secondary device, these settings can make it feel faster and more efficient in just a few taps.

How to Unlock Developer Options

If you haven’t already:

  1. Go to Settings > About Phone

  2. Tap Build Number seven times

  3. Enter your PIN or pattern if prompted

  4. Return to Settings > System > Developer Options

Now let’s get to the good stuff.

1. Speed Up (or Kill) Animations

  • Where: Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, Animator duration scale

  • Set to: 0.5x or Off

  • Why it works: Cutting down animations reduces the delay between screens and taps. Your phone will instantly feel more responsive.

2. Limit Background Processes

  • Where: Background process limit

  • Set to: 2 or 3 processes

  • Why it works: Restricts how many apps stay active in the background. This saves memory and battery without breaking basic multitasking.

3. Fix Bluetooth Volume Bugs

  • Where: Disable Absolute Volume

  • Set to: On

  • Why it works: Solves inconsistent volume issues with Bluetooth speakers and headphones. A must if your audio randomly jumps or dips.

4. Sharpen Game Graphics

  • Where: Force 4x MSAA

  • Set to: On

  • Why it works: Enables anti-aliasing in supported games and apps. Makes visuals look cleaner, at the cost of a little battery.

5. Force Split-Screen Support for All Apps

  • Where: Force activities to be resizable

  • Set to: On

  • Why it works: Some apps block split-screen mode by default. This forces them to cooperate, giving you real multitasking freedom.

6. Fix Lag with GPU Rendering

  • Where: Disable HW overlays

  • Set to: On (when needed)

  • Why it works: Forces your phone to use GPU instead of CPU for UI rendering. Helpful if your phone feels sluggish or stutters occasionally.

7. Reduce Wi-Fi Background Activity

  • Where: Wi-Fi scan throttling

  • Set to: On

  • Why it works: Stops apps from scanning for networks too frequently. Great for saving battery without affecting connectivity.

Stylized illustration of a smartphone emitting Wi-Fi signals that transition from strong arcs to soft waves, representing Wi-Fi scan throttling and energy-saving mode. Blue gradient background with motion effects symbolizing reduced network activity.

8. Turn Off Predictive Back Animations

  • Where: Predictive Back

  • Set to: Off

  • Why it works: Disabling this removes unnecessary back gesture previews. Smoother navigation, less delay.

9. Disable Stylus Handwriting (If You Don’t Use One)

  • Where: Stylus handwriting

  • Set to: Off

  • Why it works: If your phone doesn’t support a stylus, this feature just takes up processing power in the background.

10. Turn Off Visual Debugging Tools

  • Where: Show Taps, Pointer Location

  • Set to: Off

  • Why it works: These are useful for demos or devs, but otherwise just clutter your screen and use system resources.

Bonus Tweaks (For Power Users Only)

If you know your way around Android, here are a few more switches to consider:

SettingRecommended SettingWhy It Matters
Strict ModeOffAvoids screen flashes on system delays
Autofill LoggingOffKeeps system cleaner, improves performance
Freeform WindowsOff (unless using custom launcher)For floating app windows
Force Desktop ModeOffOnly useful with USB-C docking
Mock Location AppLeave unassignedPrevents app bans or location spoof flags
Force Full GNSS MeasurementsOffGPS devs only

Don’t Want to Reconfigure This Every Time?

Create a simple checklist or use a tool like Tasker to apply your preferred Developer Options in seconds. Perfect if you reset devices often or switch between work and personal setups.

Final Thoughts

These Developer Options aren’t just for developers. They’re practical tools that anyone can use to get more out of their Android device — no root, no risk, and no third-party apps.

From smoother transitions to fewer background drains, the changes above can genuinely make an older or secondary device feel new again. And if you're using a flagship, they’ll help you get the most out of your hardware.

How to Change and Customize the Windows 7 Logon Screen using REGEDIT (Step-by-Step Guide)

Updated for 2025 – Important Disclaimer

Microsoft Windows 7 reached its end-of-life (EOL) on January 14, 2020. Microsoft no longer provides security updates, which means using Windows 7 can expose your system to vulnerabilities. If possible, consider upgrading to Windows 10 or 11. However, if you're still using Windows 7 and want to customize your logon screen, this guide will walk you through the process safely.

In earlier versions of Windows, changing the logon screen background required third-party tools like TuneUp Utilities. However, Microsoft introduced an official registry tweak in Windows 7 (Build 7057 and later) that allows users to customize the logon screen background without additional software. This method is safe when done correctly but requires modifying the Windows Registry.

In this updated guide, we'll walk you through the process while also covering potential risks, troubleshooting, and alternative solutions.

Step-by-Step Guide to Changing the Windows 7 Logon Screen Background

Optional: Two images have been used for this method, Iron Man image can be downloaded from hereand the Arc Reactor image can be downloaded by clicking here!

Step 1: Open the Windows Registry Editor

  1. Press ⊞ Win + R to open the Run dialog.
  2. Type regedit and press Enter.
  3. If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to proceed.

🔴 Warning: Editing the Windows Registry can cause system instability if done incorrectly. Before proceeding, back up your registry:

  • In Registry Editor, go to File > Export.
  • Choose All under Export range.
  • Save the .reg backup file somewhere safe.

You will encounter a UAC when you launch the Registry Editor.

Step 2: Modify the OEMBackground Registry Key

  1. In Registry Editor, navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background
  2. Look for a DWORD (32-bit) Value named OEMBackground.
    • If OEMBackground does not exist, right-click on an empty space in the right pane, select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value, and name it OEMBackground.
  3. Double-click OEMBackground and change its value from 0 to 1.
  4. Click OK and close the Registry Editor.

  2. Rename the image to backgroundDefault.jpg.
  3. Copy the image into:
    C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds
  4. If you receive a permission warning, click Continue.

When you click the New Folder button, you’ll encounter a confirmation dialog box.

Troubleshooting Tips

🔹 Problem: The logon background does not change after restarting
✔️ Solution:

  • Make sure OEMBackground is set to 1 in the registry.
  • Ensure the image is named exactly as backgroundDefault.jpg.
  • Verify that the image file size is under 256 KB.
  • Try changing file permissions to give full control to administrators.

🔹 Problem: File Permission Errors
✔️ Solution:

  • Right-click the backgrounds folder > Properties > Security Tab.
  • Click Edit, then select Administrators and check Full Control.
  • Click Apply and OK.

Alternative Methods (For Users Who Want an Easier Solution)

If you prefer not to modify the registry manually, consider using free tools like:

  • Windows 7 Logon Background Changer (Download) – GUI-based tool that automates this process.
  • LogonStudio (Download) – Allows logon screen customization.

Conclusion

Customizing the Windows 7 logon screen is a straightforward process that requires modifying the registry, creating specific folders, and ensuring the correct image format. By following this guide carefully, you can safely change the logon screen without using third-party tools.

🔴 However, Windows 7 is outdated and insecure. If you're still using it, consider upgrading to Windows 10 or 11 for better security and support.

Copy or Save Text and Images from Right Clicking Disabled Websites

METHOD 1
Webmasters protect their contents in the shape of both text and images by disabling right click on their websites. Once they disable right clicking ability on their websites, you can’t right click on their web pages or in other words, making a right click won’t pop up any options. This is really annoying when you want to save an image or copy some definitions for your project or something. In this case, you can follow a simple trick to bypass these right click disable limitations and copy both text and images from that web page. Earlier I posted a simple trick to bypass no right click problems, but this trick is more simpler.

  1. Open the page you want to copy text or save image from
  2. Once the page is loaded, press CTRL + U on your keyboard
  3. This shortcut will open the web page source code
  4. Find the text you want to save and copy it from there
  5. Find the image link from the source code and open that link in a new window, this time you will be able to save the image
  6. You are done.

Source code of a web page means all the codes and informations that makes a web page. In this way you can navigate to any site or any web page’s source code and easily copy or save text and images from it.

METHOD 2
Websites use javascripts to block the right clicks on their websites. This javascript acts with our browser. So, if we can set our browsers to avoid running those scripts, we will be able to copy texts and save images. Now lets learn how to disable javascripts and enable right click.
Firefox users :
  • Go to Tools –> Options
  • Click on Content tab
  • Uncheck the box saying Enable javascript
  • Restart Firefox and you are done.
Internet Explorer Users :
  • Go to Tools –> Internet Options
  • Click on Security Tab –> Custom Level
  • Scroll to Scripting
  • Disable it.
  • Restart IE and you are done.
Once you are done with your job, enable javascript option on your browser again. From now on, you don’t need to get worried when you find a web page that does not allow you to copy text or save images from it. The above mentioned tricks will take care of that and you will be able to copy texts and save images.

Internet Explorer 9 window crashes in Windows 7. Why?

You may typically get one of the errors below or the IE window might freeze or restart without an error message.
“Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.”
“Internet Explorer has stopped responding”
This is typically due to incompatible add-ons or toolbars or an incompatible display adapter. Internet Explorer uses the graphics chipset for hardware acceleration and these issues might happen due to an older and/or incompatible driver.

You can typically resolve these issues using the following steps in the given order.

Method 1: No Add-ons Mode
Click Start. Type in "iexplorer.exe -extoff" and press enter. This will open IE in No Add-ons mode. Check if the crashes or performance issues happy while on this mode.
If there are no issues when using this mode, you can use the addon manager to disable all unwanted add-ons.
To do this, follow these steps:
Open Internet Explorer 9. Click the tools button (wheel button at the right hand side corner), and then click Manage Add-ons. On the Show drop-down menu, select All add-ons to display all add-ons that are installed on the computer. Look for each item in the list, select the add-on, and then click Disable in the Information window.
When you have disabled all the items in this list, click OK.
Exit and then restart Internet Explorer.

Method 2: Reset Internet Explorer Settings
To use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature from Control Panel, follow these steps:
Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running).
Click Start, type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER:
    inetcpl.cpl
The Internet Options dialog box appears.
Click the Advanced tab, Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset.
Then click Reset again. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box. Start Internet Explorer again.
Please note that running RIES (Reset Internet Explorer Settings) will reset all user-defined settings including those set by installed extensions, toolbars and other add-ons to IE Defaults. This includes all Security, Privacy and Zone settings. Also this will clear browsing history, delete all temporary Internet Files, cookies, form data and especially all stored passwords.
However, RIES does not clear Favorites or Subscribed Feeds.

Method 3: Software Rendering
If resetting IE or No Add-ons mode does not resolve the issue for you then it could be a compatibility issue with the Graphics card.
To resolve this, Click Start, type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl
Under Internet Options, click the advanced tab. Under 'Accelerated Graphics', click on the checkbox next to 'Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering*'. Ensuring that it is checked, click on OK. Close Internet options.
Now open Internet Explorer 9. It should now work without any issues.
